Spotting Toxic Waste from Space

Sonia Silvestri works with an Italian construction firm, she does research on the use of GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar). Recently, Sonia's work has produced an accuracy rate of 50%, with 17 of 34 spots identified as potential dump sites coming up with contaminated toxic waste.

Illegally dumping toxic waste is a very big problem, as it contaminates the ground water, and ultimately affects the survival of the human race. Tracking down culprits, and making it harder to ger away with illegal dumping will be a big help to prevent it from happening now and in the future.
